My Costumes at MAGFest 2020

I decided to go with a theme for my MAGFest costumes this year: Stephanie Brown and Cassandra Cain. They are two characters from the Batman universe who were best friends in the pre-New 52 continuity. Right now I have two cosplays of Stephanie Brown’s costumes and one of Cassandra Cain’s. I am hoping to make a couple more at some point (namely, Stephanie’s version of Batgirl and Cassandra’s Black Bat).

On Thursday I debuted my new Spoiler costume, which I had finished in December. I think it is a really cool look, with the purple and black. However, with the full face mask it is a bit hard to wear at a con. The visibility is not great, and the mask gets warm. Nevertheless, I was still happy with the result, and I like the photos we got.

We started with some “standard” photos in front of a stone wall inside. This wall is very popular with photographers at MAGFest and Katsucon, but on a Thursday it was not that busy.

I liked the texture of this outdoor wall. The wall was a bit short, so I went with a crouching pose.

We shot this one in a very narrow space between some escalators and a wall. We used a second speedlight to bounce purple off the background. It was a bit challenging to fit in there, so we could only do half-length photos. (I posted a photo of the space we used in my last entry.)

On Friday I wore my Stephanie Brown Robin costume, which I have worn to a bunch of cons before. Even though it is an older costume, I still really like it. The Robin colors are so nice and bright.

We were experimenting with using a colored background light on a brick wall (as opposed to a light colored wall) with this photo. Color balancing this shot was a bit tough, with all that green.

I was lucky enough to get some wonderful shots with Lea Sanders before the photographers meetup. She has a knack for choosing interesting angles.

Then on Saturday I wore my Cassandra Cain costume, which is based on a fan art design by TBranch Studios. I had only worn it to one con previously.

Mike and I just did a few photos because we were shooting with a bunch of other folks that day.

I had a shoot with Brad Behles. He produced a bunch of awesome photos! Even though I can always get photos with Mike, I enjoy working with other photographers because they have different, unique styles.

I had a really fun time wearing all three of these costumes!
