Our first con of 2020 was MAGFest, which kicked off the year on January 2nd. We went for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (saving Sunday for rest and recovery). We did not have a large group that we were attending with, but we ran into plenty of friends throughout the weekend. The days were full of photo shoots, playing board games, socializing, and shopping.
Thursday was a relatively quiet day. I wore my new Spoiler costume (more on that in my next post), we did one shoot with a friend (I will share photos from our formal shoots in a future post), and we played a couple games with our friend Dimitry.
A selfie with Sara right after we finished our shoot on Thursday. It was warm enough to do photos outside!
We shot some photos in this narrow space between some escalators and a wall, the results of which I will share later. This picture is actually from Friday, when they had roped that area off. It was a tight fit, but the cream walls meant we could throw a geled light on the background to change the color.
Right before we left for the evening, we grabbed a couple hall shots using a speedlight in a softbox. I held the light for Mike to shoot. It was already a bit dark in the atrium because the sun had set, which led to a cool effect.
Justice as Captain Marvel. I like the framing effect made by the lights.
Full Velvet as Black Widow
Friday was a busier day. I wore my Stephanie Brown Robin costume (I was making it an all Stephanie Brown/Cassandra Cain weekend). We had two shoots with friends and one meetup. Plus, of course, we also played some more table top games.
The meetup was a shoot for photographers, organized by Erin. It was adorable to see so many of them show up and then be nervous about having their photo taken. But they all did great.
We also had the pleasure of running in to Sarah, cosplaying as Ariel. She was the founder of the D.C. Cosplay Photo Shoots group, but has since moved out of the area, so was great to see her at a con.
Saturday was pretty packed, both in terms of our schedule and the crowds. I wore my Cassandra Cain cosplay. We had three shoots with friends, and did a bunch of hall shots. We also played a game with Dimitry, Quacks of Quedlinburg, which was very fun.
Mike had set up a light stand and softbox to take photos of me in a corner with a brick wall, which also allowed us to get a few hall shots with other folks.

Charmed Cosplay as Foreteller Invi from the Kingdom Hearts games
Here are a few more hall shots from throughout the day.

After the sun had set, we got out a speedlight and softbox for a few more hall shots.
