Awesome Con 2016

This year’s Awesome Con was the best one yet. Mike and I have been going to this con since it started in 2013. Every time it has gotten bigger and bigger, but even with the crowds it has continued to be fun. This time we went on both Saturday and Sunday. The organizers appear to have put a lot of thought into the programming, with panels covering many different geek interests and aspects of pop culture, from TV to comics to gaming to crafting to science. Furthermore, the array of vendors and artists in the expo hall was really impressive. And the cosplayers were legion. Everywhere we went there were great costumes! I appreciate going to a con where there is such a large variety of things to do and see.

This post covers the con generally. I will follow up with hall photos of cosplayers and pictures of my and Mike’s costumes.

On the walk in, I met this adorable Pinkie Pie cosplayer, who asked for a photo.

At one of the booths you could take a photo with the shield used in Captain America: The First Avenger.

On the back it was signed by cast members of several Marvel movies/shows.

On Saturday afternoon, DC Cosplay Photo Shoots held an informal meetup. Here’s one of the organizers, Life of Cosplay, hamming it up with another Rogue cosplayer (The Jungle Nook).

This tiny Rey cosplayer was adorable. She was really shy, but was excited to get her picture taken with Rainbow Dash.

Maggie and her colleagues at the James Webb Space Telescope panel. It was really informative! I’m so glad Awesome Con invited them to participate in the science track of panels.

All of my purchases and swag. Maggie gave me the NASA sticker (and she gave one to every waiter we ran into at Zengo, where we went to dinner on Saturday–she may have had some extra stickers…) and Jay Justice signed my badge.
