First finished object of 2016! I plan to wear this next Saturday at Riversdale House Museum‘s Twelfth Night Ball.
Here is the inspiration gown. This was sold by the Cora Ginsburg Gallery back in 2004. The best version of this image (where you can more clearly see the trim on the bodice) can be found here.
I used some yellow cotton lawn from Mood Fabrics. We had a mix up on the order, where they originally sent me some heavier orange fabric by accident. However, they exchanged that for the correct fabric, which put me back on track. The dress is lined in a cotton/linen blend.
Bodice pattern pieces laid out for cutting
Patterning the sleeve. I made the final version with cotton lawn lined in a lightweight cotton/linen for the outside layer, over a layer of brown silk satin for the inside.
Finished sleeve pattern
Bodice sewn together, before sleeves
Sewing the ribbon trim around the hem. I used brown silk ribbon from M&J Trimming.
With the sleeves sewn in and the skirt assembled but not attached yet
Finished! The skirt is sheer and unlined, so I will wear a long petticoat under it.
I have some wider brown ribbon that I’ll wear pinned around the waist.
